PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has said that collective efforts beyond political affiliation are essential to flush out `the enemies of humanity` from the region. He was speaking at a function organised by the district administration at Chief Minister`s House here on Sunday to distribute compensation cheques among the traders and other citizens of Peshawar, affected by bomb blasts.“The people of Peshawar have faced challenges with remarkable courage, patience and bravery. I pay gratitude to their greatness. Terrorism has seriously hindered business activities in the province. The traders have great contribution in controlling terrorism,” Mr Hoti said.He added that traders extended remarkable support to government and administration during Eidul Azha, Muharram and 31st National Games. “That is the reason that terrorists failed to accomplish their evil agenda,” he said.

The chief minister said that prime minister entertained his request for compensating the people of Peshawar, affected by terrorism. He said that the federal government reserved one per cent of the total pool in NFC award to compensate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the damage it suffered owing to terrorism. The amount was utilised for fulfilling needs of police and rehabilitation of affected hospitals and schools in the province, he added.“Every possible support will be extended to the affected people because I believe people have every right over the national exchequer,” he said.Mr Hoti said that Annual Developmental Programme was frozen to rehabilitate affected people. He said that he would soon inaugurate work on Gulbahar flyover. He said that southern bypass of Ring Road would be completed in three years with a cost of Rs3 billion. “Besides an additional lane, a separate service road will also be constructed and heavy traffic from Hayatabad will be linked to Khyber Road through the expressway, comprising four lanes,” he added. He said that friendly countries would be contacted for commencing work on northern bypass of the Ring Road. “The project of Elevated Highway is also under consideration to provide of better travelling facilities to the people of Peshawar,” he said. The chief minister distributed cheques worth Rs160 million among the families of blast victims – Dawn
